In 2014 Dan began writing a book about how campaign cash has stolen our voice in Washington, and how we might fix the problem. In 2020 he decided that direct political action would have a greater impact, and founded Save Democracy in America, a non-partisan campaign for the Voter Dollars reform.
Since the only Americans who have real influence in Washington are big-ticket campaign donors, we’ll make ourselves the donors. For every election the government would give each registered voter an online account of campaign cash. You can’t take it out and spend it. Instead, you would go online and send your Voter Dollars to the candidates you want to support.
Candidates who want to serve us can raise enough money from voters to fund a competitive campaign. Their opponents will have no excuse for taking money from billionaires and special interests.
The fight for Voter Dollars brings Americans together across the party lines, because Americans on both sides are fed up with politics as usual. Voter Dollars affirms one of the ideals which make us Americans: government of, by and for the people.
